Car rental in downtown Agadir

Already at your hotel? Collect a car in town for the days you want to explore, and leave it behind for the days you do not.

Why choose car rental in downtown Agadir

Agadir is a city you can enjoy on foot for days. The beach, the promenade, the marina and most restaurants are within walking distance of the hotels, and petits taxis are cheap for short hops. Many visitors do not need a car for the first part of their stay at all.

Car rental in downtown Agadir lets you start the rental when you actually want to explore: a few days for the surf villages, the Atlas foothills or the old towns of the Souss valley. You avoid paying for days when the car would only sit in a hotel car park.

There is nothing to collect either. Delivery is free anywhere in Agadir, so the car comes to your door rather than you going to it, and unlimited kilometres mean the day trips cost the same however far they take you.

Where are you staying in Agadir?

Downtown Agadir runs for miles along the bay, and each district is different to park and drive in. This is what to expect in each one.

Boats in the marina of Agadir

MarinaParking: Busy in the evening

Restaurants, apartments and boats at the northern end of the bay. In the evening the streets fill up, so use the paid car park and walk the last stretch. The coast road north to Taghazout starts just beyond it.

Agadir beach on a clear day

Beach front and FountyParking: Easy

The long promenade and the big hotels, with Founty at the southern end. Avenues are wide and most hotels have their own car parks, which makes this the easiest part of the city for any size of car.

Avenue in the Talborjt district of Agadir

TalborjtParking: Tight

The older heart of the city, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, with cafes, small hotels and a local feel. Side streets are narrower and spaces are fewer, so a small car helps.

Entrance to Souk El Had in Agadir

Souk El HadParking: Go early

One of the largest markets in Morocco, with thousands of stalls behind its walls. It is closed on Mondays. Parking fills up by late morning, especially at the weekend, so arrive early or come by taxi.

View from the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella

Agadir OufellaParking: At the top

The old Kasbah on the hill above the port, and the best view of the whole bay. A car is the easiest way up the winding road, and there is space to park near the top.

Parking in downtown Agadir

On many streets you will meet a parking guardian, usually in a high visibility vest, who keeps an eye on the parked cars. Paying them a few dirhams when you leave is normal and expected. In the busiest areas, such as the marina, there are paid car parks with a barrier, which are the simplest option in the evening.

Never leave bags, phones or documents on the seats, and do not park where the kerb is painted red and white. Most hotels and apartment buildings along the beach front have their own parking, so ask at reception when you arrive.

Driving in the city

Agadir is one of the easier Moroccan cities to drive in. The streets are laid out on a grid, the main avenues are wide, and traffic is calmer than in Marrakech or Casablanca. The busiest times are the morning and evening rush and around Souk El Had at the weekend.

Roundabouts are everywhere. Give way to cars already on them unless signs tell you otherwise, and watch out for scooters and petits taxis that stop suddenly to pick up passengers. Speed limits in town are usually 60 km/h or lower, and police checks are common on the roads in and out of the city.

Day trips from downtown Agadir

With a car for three days, these are the trips our customers enjoy most. Times are approximate, from the city centre.

Taghazout and Tamraght
About 20 km north, 25 minutes. Surf beaches, cafes and the coast road towards Imsouane.
Paradise Valley
About 45 km, an hour. Palm gorges and rock pools in the Atlas foothills, on the road to Imouzzer.
Taroudant
About 85 km, 1 hour 15. A walled market town in the Souss valley, inland past the airport.
Tiznit and Mirleft
About 90 km and 125 km south. A silver market town, then wild beaches along the coast.

Finishing your rental

When the rental ends, you can hand the car back in town, or take it to Agadir Airport on your way home. Neither has a location fee, and you can mix them freely: collect in town, return at the airport, or the other way round.

Not sure which car to pick? You can choose a car on our cars and prices page. A small one makes parking in town much easier. If you are watching the budget, here is how to keep the cost of your rental down. Spending the whole winter here? Our rates for staying the season are the lowest we offer. And if your trip takes you further, read our guide to the drive to Marrakech.

A week in Agadir: when to take the car

A common pattern is three days without a car, then four days with one. Spend the first days on the beach, the promenade, the marina and a visit to Souk El Had, all easy on foot or by petit taxi. Then collect a car in town for the trips that need one.

Use those days for the places buses do not reach easily: the surf villages and Paradise Valley to the north, Taroudant inland, and Tiznit and the coast to the south. Because the daily rate falls with the length of the rental, check whether keeping the car for the whole second half of the stay costs much more than three days.

Practical stops around town

Large supermarkets on the edge of Agadir are the easiest places to stock up for a self catering stay, and they have their own car parks. Fuel stations are spread along the main avenues and the roads out of the city, so filling up before you return the car is easy.

If you drive in the evening, the beach front and the marina are at their busiest after sunset. Leave a little extra time to find a space, and remember that the car goes back with the same fuel level it came with.

Tips for a smooth handover in town

Have your passport, driving licence and booking number ready, and be at the agreed spot a few minutes early. If you are staying in a hotel, the entrance or the car park is usually the easiest place to meet. In an apartment, a nearby landmark or main road works better than a narrow side street.

Take a few photos of the car with your phone during the check, and ask us about anything you are unsure of, such as the gearbox, the lights or where to fill up. Then save our WhatsApp number, so that you can reach us easily during the rental.

At the end, the same applies in reverse. Agree the time and place on WhatsApp, return the car with the same fuel level, and leave a little time for the final check together.

If your plans change during the rental, for example you decide to keep the car for a few more days or to return it at the airport instead of in town, message us before the end date. Extending is usually easy if the car is free, and the longer rental may bring the daily rate down.

We agree a handover spot with you on WhatsApp once you have booked, based on where you are staying.

Is parking easy in downtown Agadir?

Along the beach and in the newer districts, yes. Around Souk El Had and in Talborjt it takes more patience, so a smaller car helps.

Yes. Neither Agadir city nor Agadir Al Massira Airport has a location fee.

Can I rent a car in Agadir for just one day?

The shortest rental we offer is three days.

Which car is best for driving in Agadir city?

A small one, such as the Hyundai i10 or Renault Clio 5, is the easiest to park, especially in Talborjt and around Souk El Had.
